As I am writing this post we are mid remodel on the house. Seriously, I am staring at a hole in the wall from a current project in process. With that being said, many projects are in process so STAY TUNED for future posts! Since there is not much that is “postable” about our house right now I figured we would take a trip down our “house memory lane.”
How It All Started
Let’s just talk about the crazy…My husband and I have bought four houses in six years. Yes, you read that right, four houses! Our first house was a small (792 sq. ft) 2 bedroom, 1 bath bungalow that we bought while we were still in college. Hey, I told you we were going to talk about the crazy. We were young, and it sounded like a good idea at the time. It was a cute little house but we ended up having to sell it so I could go to graduate school in a different city.
Our Second House
Once I finished graduate school, we moved to a bigger city for better job opportunities. This is where we bought our second house. It was a split level home with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It was what we considered to be a great starter home. However, we didn’t get to do much with it. I was still finishing up graduate school and we had our son shortly after moving in; money was tight and we didn’t stay long.
Our Third House
Shortly after our son was born we moved back to our home town to be closer to family, enter our third house. We were fortunate enough to buy a brand new house. It was a beautiful two-story home with a wonderful master suite retreat.
The only drawback was that the style and finishings on this house just weren’t quite “us.” Our short stay there consisted of making it feel more like home. And it was a process, let me tell you! I believe in bargain shopping but I am also very picky (bless my husband for putting up with me), which is what makes the process so long and complicated. Weirdly, I find great joy in scoring unique decor for our home decor at great deals.
Because our time in this house was so short, I basically only finished decorating one room. And I use the word finish loosely. There were a few other changes I wanted to make, such as a new light fixture. But once again we moved before I could finish.
Stay tuned for future posts to see the process of creating the dining room table.
Our Fourth and Final House
On a summer day after spending the day on the lake, we happened to drive past a lake house. We are big lake people so living on the lake has always been on the back of our minds. For some reason, this house called to us. Once we looked at it with our realtor we knew it was perfect for us. It has a large entertaining space but smaller bedrooms, exactly what we have been looking for. We did have to look past the pea-green “amenities.” Nothing has been updated since 1974. We have our work cut out for us on this fixer upper. But we are excited nonetheless.
That brings us to the present day. We are slowly taking the 70’s out of our house. We have short-term goals such as taking the paneling off the walls, updating flooring, painting the kitchen cabinets, etc. There are also many long-term goals like completely gutting and reconfiguring the kitchen and combining two bedrooms into a master suite. The projects are going to be non-stop for many years. Many posts updating you on the progress are to come!
